How This Tool Works
Our Hunting Season Finder gives you instant access to season dates, legal weapons, and bag limits for any game species in any US state. Simply select your state, choose the species you want to hunt, and the tool displays:
- Interactive timeline — A visual calendar showing exactly when each season opens and closes, with the current month highlighted so you can see what's in season right now.
- Season details — Cards for each season segment (archery, muzzleloader, general rifle, etc.) showing the exact dates and legal weapons.
- Bag limits — Daily and seasonal harvest limits for your selected species, including any special restrictions like antler point requirements or draw-only tags.
Understanding Hunting Seasons
Each state sets its own hunting seasons based on wildlife population data, conservation goals, and habitat conditions. Most big game seasons run from early fall through winter, while spring seasons are common for turkey and some bird species. Many states split their deer and elk seasons into separate segments by weapon type — typically archery first (September–October), followed by muzzleloader and then general firearms seasons (November–January). Waterfowl seasons are set within frameworks established by the U.S. Fish and Wildlife Service and usually run from October through January. For a comprehensive overview of season timing across all states, see our hunting seasons calendar guide.
About the Data
Season dates and bag limits shown here are sourced from each state's official fish and wildlife agency regulations for the current license year. Dates are generalized to statewide or primary-zone seasons — some states have multiple zones (e.g., North Zone / South Zone) or unit-specific dates that may differ. Bag limits shown reflect statewide regulations; county-level or unit-specific restrictions may apply. We recommend consulting your state's official hunting regulations for zone-specific dates and any emergency closures.
